Another month down! Are you in the Northern Hemisphere like us and feeling revitalised with the longer days and return of Spring? Have you enjoyed the glimpse of sunshine from the comfort of your sofa while playing Pokopia like us?

This month seems like a quiet one and we promise it’s not because we were spending every waking moment building the perfect trashcan habitat for Trubbish. That would be preposterous. There were a lot of exciting FFG related things brewing this March but how much can we actually share right now? Let’s find out!

Virtual co-working game, On-Together, reached a huge milestone (50k copies sold! wow!) and launched their first MAJOR UPDATE this month! Yippee!

Players can now customise their avatar with an array of new facial hair and show off their sick new ‘staches in the newly renovated top secret cave area. There’s also a new mini-game while fishing! Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to catch a key, unlock a treasure chest and win some goodies! 🔑

The On-Together community has grown so much and it’s SO rewarding to see players share their work/study session successes. Every week, the On-Together developers are sharing their favourite server moments on socials so we can all celebrate the little things in life together! 🏔️ Laysara: Summit Kingdom launched into 1.0 last month and very quickly reached three huge milestones early this month. This vertical city-builder x strategy game has now surpassed 1k reviews, 1k players peak, and 100k sales! Yay Yaks!!!

⭐ Abi also had her first ever big hosting job for Dreamhack in Birmingham and absolutely KILLED it. It’s not easy being in charge of a whole weekend of cosplay competitions and panels and yet, she makes it look so effortless because she is amazing. We couldn’t be more proud of her!

🪄 Songs of Glimmerwick, the story-driven witch academy RPG, has news coming soon! The rumours are true. Soon you’ll be able to immerse yourself in a lovingly hand-painted musical woodland fantasy world where casting a spell is as easy as playing a song. Announced way back in 2021 by the studio behind the critically-acclaimed Eastshade, fans of magical academia won’t have to wait much longer…

🔍 Nippets has a release date! People watching fans can rejoice, this hand-drawn hidden objects game is coming to PC via Steam on April 7th! Pet cats, shake trees, peek through windows and discover a delightful world filled with secrets and stories in this cool game by our friends at Blink Industries (the production company behind Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared), art director Frederikke Frydenlund and development company Uwu Biz (Gang Beasts, PVKK). Strong team combo!

🐾 Herdles is a magical dog adventure that you might have seen at the recent Future Games Show! Described as ‘Spyro meets Breath of the Wild, with a dog’, this adorable game is coming to Steam later this year. Austrian indie studios One More Journey and Fire Sword Studios (The Perfect Tower II) have teamed up to create this very sweet game. Also the dog is inspired by creative director Christian Hübel’s real life dog Snoopy. I’m not crying, you are.

It’s already the end of February. Huh?!? The month that brought us the year of the Fire Horse, Valentines day, Ramadan, pancake day… but also the most pertinent event to this newsletter: Steam Next Fest. It’s true.

While lovers were dining out, galentines were wining out, Punch the monkey stole our hearts, and the horror of the real world persisted… we were prepping for a big video game month! If you’re wondering how best to spend this Next Fest season, we’ve got you covered… in snow!! (don’t be afraid).

Mountainside city-builder Laysara: Summit Kingdom is out now in 1.0 on Steam AND across Xbox, PlayStation & Switch! Build and expand your very own settlements in the high mountains, carefully plan resource production chains and satisfy the various needs of your kingdom citizens. Sounds easy? Well you also need to deal with mountain hazards like extreme weather and extreme avalanches…

The launch comes with a brand new 15 mission campaign mode so there is more than enough to keep you entertained! 🪙 Eldor’idle, the incremental idle RPG about earning a billion gold coins, has just been announced by solo dev Nautlander, and has a brand new demo for you to check out this week! Go on, don’t you want to hang with gnomes and get rich quick?!

🎲 STICKER/BALL had a makeover for the official game announcement and a new demo drop! This chaotic pool game roguelike, formerly known as Ball, Dice & Stickers has had a huge upgrade so if you’ve tried it before, you’re gonna want to check it out again! Kotaku said “I have no idea at all what is happening here. And I love it for that” and we completely agree 🙂

🌲 Treeplanter, an interactive woodland game which makes real world impact has launched its first ever demo! Pop it on your wishlist and help contribute to our ecosystem when it launches later this year! 1 copy of Treeplanter sold = 1 real tree planted irl 🌲

They have also just announced that the game will be launching on Steam on March 13th. Get it in the calendars peeps 📅

🛷 Sledding Game, a multiplayer hangout game about chilling with your buds at a ski resort, is back! and joining the Next Fest fun! This social media sensation is in the top 150 most wishlisted games on Steam, and has a new and improved demo live now for you to see what all the fuss is about!

🕷️ A Webbing Journey, the game that makes spiders cute and fluffy, has a brand new ‘Living Room’ update! This level brings 10 new quests to complete, tons of hidden interactions, and some more spider lore for you to uncover!

🍅 On-Together, our virtual co-working game, launched a limited edition ‘Early Bird DLC’ available for everyone who buys the game before the 6th of March! This update includes a shiny gold ID badge so you can find your early bird peers in the game, as well as the adorable lo-fi soundtrack by Willow Collins!

🐟 Tiny Aquarium launched the very seasonal ‘Wintertide’ update which is Brrrr-illiant! (Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves.) This update includes lots of new arctic content, 12 new decorations and 13 new species. Our favourite here is the cute Baby Harp Seal 🦭

🐀 Sokpop announced the cool new viral Rat Game that you can hear all about in the ‘Friends of Future Friends’ section below. So why are we bringing it up here, I hear you furiously think? Well, you may spot some ratty Future Friends in the trailer! Laura, Abi, Thomas, Beth, and Grace can be seen doing what they do best, aka being absolute MENACES. If we’ve learned anything from this, it’s that Future Friends can’t be trusted with guns or basic arithmetic.

🦘 Thomas has been in another timezone (AEDT) on the other side of the world from us so we’ve been missing him very much, but don’t worry!!! He’s well. He is The Baron and so is his wife.

🔤 More HUGE news, Emma’s been with us for a while now and they are killing it and we simply couldn’t imagine life without them.

How is it 2026 already? Are you also wondering how January was somehow both the longest month and yet, gone in a flash? Did you create any New Year’s resolutions that you are also now rethinking? Just us?

Anyway, we have many exciting things planned for this year at Future Friends because it’s so important to still have hope even during these times *gestures wildly at everything* … There’s so much to catch up on and so many indie gaming news to shout about so let’s go!

Our virtual co-working game On-Together launched this month! In under two weeks, this little gem has sold 20k copies, and went super viral on Instagram! PC Gamer described it as “... like going to the office in Animal Crossing” and Polygon wrote “Meta spent billions just to be outdone by this Steam game made by four people”... suck it Zuckerberg!

If you haven’t yet grabbed the game for yourself, firstly, why the heck not? Secondly, if you do decide to get a copy, you may see some of the team from FFG working hard in there, so be sure to say hi!

⚔️ Queen’s Domain reached 100k wishlists! Since being announced last month in the PC Gaming Show, this retro-fantasy RPG has reached that wishlist milestone, gone viral on social media, and has been streamed by huge content creators like Vinesauce and Splattercat. Very cool!

The jack of all trades, master of publishing… Cruz is here! Does this man maybe have more experience working with videos games than all of us combined? Maybe. Are we super grateful that he’s joined Team Publishing? Absolutely.

• Has loved everything games related since he was a kid. Video games, card games, board games, table top games… you know name it!

• Favourite game to play and collect is Magic the Gathering!

Dust off your headsets and say hi to Henry! This expert on all things virtual reality has joined the team to help support all our lovely VR developers on their cool projects. You may already know him, and you probably and/or should already love him. If you don’t (wtf?), then here’s some fun facts to get you started:

• Had a dog (rest in peace, boy) named after Dizzee Rascal

• Spiritually bald, allegedly shaved after being told it was time by Pitbull (no one can prove this didn’t happen)

🎤 Thomas announced he is returning to GDC for the 8th time with his new talk ‘Your Steam Page Needs a Soul: How to Get Your Game’s Magic Across on Steam’. This man can’t be stopped. If you happen to be in the San Francisco area between March 9th until March 13th then you should totally go listen to Thomas be very wise.

📈 Speaking of Thomas, he did his annual very professional company-wide meeting. We never know what to expect, and he certainly didn’t expect us to be able to draw on his slides live as he was talking…

☀️ Kris, Grace, and Henry all met up in the coastal paradise of Bournemouth. They got a lot of work done, avoided the paparazzi successfully, had many laughs, and even more cocktails (allegedly)!

🧠 Laura’s past life as a researcher came back to haunt her in the form of a newly available edited collection called ‘Television and Empathy’. Although it was in publishing limbo since 2020 (don’t ask), this research is somehow still the first to be exclusively dedicated to the study of television’s role in fostering empathy.

🐛 Future Friends were thinking about starting an informal and internal book club until we all got distracted with learning Thomas’ literary lore. He has allegedly only ever read 10 books. The top two? The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Rainbow Fish, of course.

It’s unusually quiet for our friends as everyone took a very well deserved winter break. That hasn’t stopped these three dev teams from dropping sick new updates from their very cool games!

New demos and new DLC to enjoy!

🍻 Gentle Troll, the developers behind D&D inspired visual novel indie hit Tavern Talk and not just a slightly questionable nickname we’ve game them, have launched a brand new demo for their new title Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker! Step into the role of a tavern owner, meet adventurers, and alter their fates by mixing them magical drinks. Gentle Troll have also launched their new Kickstarter with some cool digital and physical rewards to pledge for.

🐔 VR studio TREBUCHET have dropped an expansive Grind & Shine DLC for Prison Boss Prohibition. The DLC is out now on Quest and SteamVR for $4.99, and features a whole new neighbourhood, new tools, a vast catalogue of riches to make by hand. Very silly bird fun!

🔍 Blink Industries (production studio behind Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared!), art director Frederikke Frydenlund and development company Uwu Biz, announced Nippets, a handcrafted hidden-object game inspired by the joy of people watching. Queen’s Domain, a retro-action RPG with brutal combat, was announced at the PC Gaming show and that’s not all! A very cool demo is available now on Steam!

🐠 Tiny Aquarium is getting ready for Fish-mas in this festive update! The update includes gift boxes, Christmas tree decorations and a snowy background so it can snow in your tank! You can turn on idle mode and shake the tiny tank aggressively to pretend it’s a snow globe. ‘tis the season.

🚂 Islands & Trains have rolled out their Christmas update too! On the festive island of trains, everything is covered in snow, train carriages carry gifts and reindeer pull Santa’s sleigh! There are also lots of extra decorations so get in there! ❄️

⛰️ Laysara: Summit Kingdom is launching in 1.0 and on consoles February 27th 2026!! For our retro gamers, you can also order a physical edition or maybe upgrade yourself to a fancy collector’s edition here. We may be biased but we think you should because there are tiny yak figurines, and who wouldn’t want that???

🎰 CloverPit is now available on iOS and Android! Take the rogue-lite slot machine nightmare anywhere now!!!

💒 Our lovely Laura C decided to elope with the love of her life this month in the magical city of Copenhagen! Just for the absolute banter! It goes without saying she was the most beautiful and most iconic bride ever as she ended her wedding day on a roller coaster (still in her dress btw).

🚆Not only is she a beautiful bride, but Laura also got a promotion to train conductor! Or at least we assume so because she was ushered to the private conductor seats where she had plenty of buttons she could (but didn’t…) press and was also served a delicious breakfast spread? All we know is that DSB train man known as K310 is a real one and also we ♥️ Denmark.

🧟 Grace and Abi attended the Horror Game Awards on our devs behalf and behaved very professionally of course…

📚 Good news!!! Thomas learned the alphabet and we’re really proud. A is for Abi and also Alex 🙂 No one ask him what comes next…

REALLY COOL ANNOUNCEMENTS!

🌊 Fabraz, the indie studio behind the upcoming Bubsy 4D and 3D platformer Demon Turf: Neon Splash have announced the release date for their expressive 3D platformer Demon Tides! Explore the open seas and uncover the kingdom’s dark secrets from the 19th February 2026! Shapeshift, stack combos, and propel yourself across a dazzling open world.

The team also announced that Demon Tides will be coming to Nintendo Switch (release date tba!). There will also be a physical release combining Demon Tides, Demon Turf, and Demon Turf: Neon Splash courtesy of Fangamer. So many demons!

🐸 Panic Stations, the new development studio founded by veteran Fall Guys developers, has announced their debut project: froggy friendslop game Frog Sqwad! Use your sticky tongue and the power of teamwork to solve physics-based puzzles and hunt down delicious food… before you’re eaten yourself.

👚 Sticky Business devs Spellgarden Games announced their new title, a thrift Shop sim conveniently named Thrifty Business! Design and run your very own nostalgic thrift shop! Befriend the regulars! Sort through boxes to find hidden treasures and arrange nostalgic displays of clothes, antiques, toys & more!!! How fun!

Wrapping up 2025

What a year it’s been! For us here at Future Friends, we’ve had quite a busy 2025! Or as Thomas put it:

And he’s so right! We had a TONNE of amazing launches as a publisher, including CloverPit, Slots & Daggers & Tiny Aquarium. We’ve also announced some new and exciting games like Queen’s Domain and On-Together, with many more secret projects going that we can’t share quite yet… 🤫.

In 2025, we’ve also worked on a million and one client games, from full PR retainers through to short consulting missions - what a year! On-Together: Virtual Coworking has officially got a release date which means we can all get our FF’s virtual party in the calendar 📅 Join us on the 19th of January 2026 (how is that just around the corner…) to celebrate the cutest coworking space out there.

Not only did we get to announce the news in Cozy Quest, On-Together also got featured by PC Gamer!! They said it was “... like going to the office in Animal Crossing…” among many other lovely things, which is pretty cool if we do say so ourselves! ✨ On-Together also went viral on TikTok a few times and we’re super happy to be reaching this lovely game’s community 🥰

🐸 Tiny Aquarium dropped their BIGGEST EVER update! New fish, decorations, fishing regions, and more are available in the ‘Swamplands’ update!

It’s called ‘Swamplands’ because there’s sick new swampy frogs and turtles but also Laura C’s beloved non-swamp Baby King Crab finally made it into the game (thank you devs!) and that’s super important. You are welcome, fellow crab fans 🦀

Secret Mode also announced that Tiny Aquarium won the award for ‘Coziest Idler’! Thank you Cozy Quest 2025! 🏆

🎰 CloverPit surprise launched on Xbox and Game Pass! It was hard to keep it a secret but we are very excited that many more people can enjoy this slot-machine roguelike nightmare fun time! But that’s not all:

• We teased the upcoming Unholy Fusion DLC that is coming soon.. 👀

Happy Future Friendsgiving!

Team Future Friends met up in person for their annual Christmas party! So many shenanigans happened and so little business occurred but it sure was so nice to see each other in person to celebrate this wild year!

What exactly did we get up to? Well, the team went to an all encompassing interactive experience and what a bonding experience it was. There were puzzles, crash outs, a robot funeral, heart rate monitors going off, and maybe a platypus. Laura C’s beloved and yet slightly cursed Yoda Balloon came back from the dead, and just in time for the first ever ‘Future Friends has 5 mins to present a topic of their choice’ Competition!! It’s safe to say that we all learned a lot about each other.

Emma, Louisa, and Adam met everyone for the first time in person (and didn’t get scared off, hopefully!). And Laura C, yet again, had flight trouble… Anyway, it was a really fun time! Some extra unexplainable highlights:

• The Great Wet Debate: Is soup wet?

• Nutella Gate: The waitress (allegedly) tried to poison Adam

• Groan tubes: awooooaahhhhhw

• The phantom poo: Don’t ask

🍀 Thomas visited Dublin this month looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Not only did he find it, but he got a sick new outfit while at it!

🧸 The first ever public demo for the sentimentally charming game Momento here! 🦇 The survivor-lik adventure game Night Swam had a nice update to their demo but that’s not all! Developer Fubu Games announced the game will launch on December 4th on Steam! Not long now until you can experience this cool adaptation of the survivor-like, with deep world-building, meaningful quests, and a living castle environment that evolves with your choices.

🔥 Abi went viral on TikTok for being perhaps the biggest Daft Punk fan? Unrelated to her new found Fortnite and electronic musical duo fame, Abi also side quested so hard and ended up interviewing the voice of Monoco from Clair Osbur: Expedition 33 at MCM! Keep an eye out for that vid over on her socials: TikTok, and Instagram!

🤯 A revelation for the ages occurred this month… Cait learned what a “menty b” is. We are all very young, very cool, and very hip okay? It’s just tough out there keeping up with all the youths and their slang.

Now, as you can imagine, a LOT of the team have been enjoying Silksong this month and bracing themselves for the colder months coming up in this ol’ Northern Hemisphere. Soup season hasn’t stopped us from getting up to the following shenanigans:

🪴 Are your plants looking a little sad and in need of TLC? Say no more. Our very own Kris is the man to go to for all your plant rehabilitation needs. Looks like Louisa isn’t the only one running a niche establishment (never forget the small pet hotel…).

🐝 Speaking of particular skills, Thomas is NOT the person to go to for your holiday apartment bookings. We’ve heard some interesting and frightful stories this month from his family vacations.

🐹 Adam has welcomed a new rodent friend into his family! Everyone say hello to Sweetie!

🍻 Caitlin took inspiration from everyone’s favourite Vanellus bird, the Northern Lapwing, and has migrated westward to Ireland! Slàinte!

🏆 Grace’s sci-fi book Floating Hotel is one of Waterstones Paperbacks of the year! We are very proud of our very cool author friend who is a joy to know AND a joy to read!

Once again, we have tried to shout about all the exciting things going on for the games we help with! It’s a really good time to be an indie game fan because look at all the cool things that are out there:

Sleigh King! Cool Sledding Game demo slides its way to Steam.

Indie dev Max from the Sledding Corporation just dropped the first demo for the super chill and super fun Sledding Game!

Did you ever play the Club Penguin Sled Racing minigame and think “man… I really wish this was a full game with proximity chat and the ability to crash into my fellow friends to experience funny rag doll physics along with other cool mechanics?” Well, now you can! And this time you aren’t limited to just being a penguin! What a joyous time to be alive.

You should check it out! Go sledding, hang out with friends, make the biggest snowball possible, and roast some smores by the fire. Oh. And watch out for the yeti…

Beyond the cursed Halls (of Torment) lies the BOGLANDS!

The critically acclaimed hoard survival game, Halls of Torment by Chasing Carrots, has some big news! The team have announced their first ever DLC called The Boglands and a separate huge free update! Now there’s more Traits, more Blessings, and more ways to die!

But that’s not all, the game is coming to Xbox and Playstation! Soon you’ll be able to slay hordes of terrifying monsters and face the Lords of the underworld from the comfort of your sofa. Delicious.

Jump into an interactive anime adventure in Sushi Ben!

Big Brane Studios Inc. have launched their very cool charming game Sushi Ben on PC! Save a local sushi bar from dastardly big-city landsharks in this funny narrative adventure inspired by slice-of-life animes. Also the villain lady exclusively steps on men so what more could you really want?

First launched on VR in 2023, the PC version is playable in non-VR and VR mode. As well as flatscreen (non-VR) play, the PC version of Sushi Ben adds 4+ new hours of minigames and a star-studded english voice cast including Laura Post (Little Witch Academia) Ryan Colt Levy (Chainsaw Man), AJ Beckles (Dandadan) and many more! Woah!

VR Foreveeeer (sung to the tune of Viva Forever by the Spice Girls)

VR studio and publishing label Creature (Maestro, The Light Brigade, THRASHER, Starship Home), and PR & Marketing agency Future Friends Games (oh hey, that’s us!) revealed the winners of the inaugural VR Forever Awards this month!

They also launched the accompanying Steam festival, a brand new partnership focused on improving the curation of VR titles on Steam. It’s over now (boo!) BUT you can still check out the Steam page and see all the very sick featured games (yay!).

Plan, Aim, and Shoot in FLICK SHOT ROGUES!

Indie studio Butter by the Fish and publisher Noodlecake (Winter Burrow, Super Stickman Golf) have launched their tactical roguelike FLICK SHOT ROGUES for PC via Steam!

The game is kinda like pool/billiards if each ball was a tiny pirate and the table was actually a battlefield with guns and explosives… In other words, it’s an immensely satisfying turn-based roguelike where you flick your hero across the map to unleash crazy combos!

If you are a fan of games like Peglin or Dungeon Clawler, we highly recommend you check out the Launch Trailer and prepare yourselves to be charmed!

Out of this world Mars First Logistics launches into 1.0!

The popular open-world, physics-based rover-building sim Mars First Logistics left Steam Early Access and launched with a massive 1.0 update!

Build physically simulated rovers to transport awkwardly shaped cargo across the rugged terrain of Mars. Developed by Shape Shop with support from Outersloth, the launch update comes with new languages, automation systems, new parts, and new contracts in a new area! Amongst other things!

Tiny, dreamy worlds await you in the Dream Garden demo!

The lovely indie duo from Campfire Studio (My Dream Setup) released their first Dream Garden demo on Steam! Curious? Have a gander at the Demo Trailer and let the relaxing vibes wash over you. The demo will give you a little slice of the game for you to build your own tranquil, dreamy gardens in. Very cute!

Dream Garden plans to release on PC via Steam later this year.

Spark a revolution in the Duskpunk demo!

Clockwork Bird, who you may know as the team behind the critically acclaimed Silicon Dreams, have announced their next game: gritty tabletop-inspired RPG Duskpunk!

StudioBando announced the release date for their game Sopa: Tale of the Stolen Potato, available on 7th October on Steam, Xbox, and Game Pass!

Sopa is not only a tale about a stolen potato, but a tale about family, adventure, and the things we pass onto future generations. The game is inspired by Spirited Away, The Little Prince and Coco (i mean, what a combo!). Cubism is celebrating its 5th anniversary!

Since its original release on the first Meta Quest back in 2020, Cubism has had a glow up over the years with added hand tracking support, new puzzles, passthrough support, and a local puzzle editor. Crude Oil, the slippery brain child of solo developer Peter Nichols aka elf’s end interactive, has launched a demo on Steam for their platforming adventure game!

Sunsgrove Studios have released a free demo for their upcoming project War of the Western Deep, an animated adventure set in the fantasy world of beloved webtoon Beyond the Western Deep.

In this very charming game, you are a royal courier stranded in foreign territory on the brink of war. Immerse yourself in a lush, hand-made world as you explore an innovative mix of exploration and cinematic combat.

War of the Western Deep is slated to arrive on PC via Steam in late 2027.

Get Rich or Die Stitchin’ in this new Prison Boss DLC!

TREBUCHET released the Stitchin Rich DLC for Prison Boss Prohibition, the sequel to the cult hit Prison Boss VR. The DLC is out now on Quest and SteamVR.

Stitchin Rich introduces a brand new district, The Public Place, owned by the Mayor of New Yolk City. It’s a cheerful square that’s ripe for illicit activities (wink wink nudge nudge). Check out the DLC Launch Trailer to learn all about the new district and all the shenanigans that come with this totally legitimate tailoring shop.

Award winning game thrashes its way to Steam!

As part of the VR Forever Steam Event, Puddle (Brian Gibson, composer and artist for THUMPER, and Mike Mandel, Rock Band VR) released the first Steam demo of their game THRASHER!

The game was previously only available for Meta Quest & Apple Vision Pro and was so sick that it won numerous industry awards! The Steam version, full of cosmic baby gods and mysterious monoliths, is playable for the first time in this new demo in non-VR (flatscreen) and optimised for PC, SteamDeck and SteamVR. Check out the Announcement Trailer for all your space riding eel needs.

THRASHER (Steam version) is planned to launch later in the year. The demo will remain online until the end of Steam Next Fest coming up next month so don’t miss out!

We have recruited a new friend to come and whip us into shape!

Future Friends Games are good at many things (this newsletter being the main one obviously) but we are going to be very real and very vulnerable with you… organisation is not our strong suit 😬 Luckily for us, it is Emma’s!!!

• Can recite most Spongebob episodes by heart

• As a result of the above, they will reference Spongebob at least once per day

• Has multiple databases to track and rate everything they’ve ever watched, listened to, or read.

Team Lore

The grown ups travelled over to cologne for Gamescom this month and survived! Here are some highlights from their trip:

🎨 Someone drew Paul's portrait and captured his essence perfectly

🏃‍♂️ Alex became a Sonic champion while Paul found his true calling as a bouncer…

💖 Kris absolutely SMASHED his devcom panel and we are very proud!

👨‍🦲 And Thomas found his twin!

Overall a lovely time was had and most importantly, the boys were together 💖

But what did the rest of the team get up to? Great question!

🐢 Louisa dropped some new lore that I guess she runs a pet hotel? maybe? Who knows. We all enjoyed this information that came with no further elaboration.

🦴 Laura C fell down the stairs and lived to tell the tale. Shockingly.

🙏 Grace enlightened us on Kirby etymology, changing us for the better, before braving a huge festival where she also had a life-changing religious experience (she saw Chappell Roan)

📱Robyn decided to guess who out of the gang had an Android or an iPhone based off of their vibes… and she guessed 100% correctly (maybe… not everyone replied so she’s just gonna assume she was right)! What do you guys think?

Snow way!! Sledding Game got a sick new trailer!

‘The Sledding Corporation’, aka solo indie dev Max, unveiled a new narrated trailer for his viral multiplayer game Sledding Game that we highly recommend you check out. You can learn about all the planned aimless fun, proximity chat, ragdoll physics and general silliness that is to come! He also shows off some cool new player characters including a panda bear and an arctic fox. Nice!

Hola! Bonjour! Hallo! Wordatro launches in various languages!

Developer Le Poulet and publisher Abiding Bridge have launched their new Wordle x Balatro word game, Wordatro, on PC via Steam. The game is fully playable in seven languages – English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch! Yay! Ich bin glücklich!

It’s party thyme! Out and About has a release date!

🪸🐠 Fish are what? (Future) Friends, not food! 🐠🪸

Our idle sim game, Tiny Aquarium: Social Fishkeeping, launched on Steam LAST WEEK and we are very happy about it!!! Tiny Aquarium is a social idle simulator that keeps growing, even when offline. Hatch, sell fish, decorate, go fishin’, and visit your friends’ aquariums with bite-sized daily sessions.

What is ‘Social Fishkeeping’ I hear you cry out? Well, in Tiny Aquarium you can visit your bestie’s tanks to admire their decor skills and judge what they’ve named their aquatic pals. There’s also an online market where you can trade your fish with fellow fans around the world! Did we mention there’s also a fishing mini-game?! Every great game has one. It’s a fact.

The team here refuses to let their real life pet fish trauma (don’t ask about the dish towel incident…) stop them from creating the tank of their dreams. Having a happy aquarium live at the bottom of our screen while we pretend to do real work has been wonderful. 10/10 would recommend.

Farewell to our Nat 💖

On a bittersweet note, last week we said goodbye to one of our sweetest friends, as she’s moving on to do some very cool and exciting things!!! We are so proud and so happy for her!

Natalie had been with us for a long time and had done SO MUCH within the PR, marketing and publishing side of the business. We couldn’t let her leave before asking her the most important questions in an attempt to distract her enough and delay her leaving us 💔 It didn’t work BUT you can read our short interview below:

Sweet Nat <3 Let’s ignore the horrors of the world and celebrate this exciting time for you! Where are you off to, and where can people find you to follow you on your new adventures?

My sweet Laura C and Future Friends <3 I’m really sad to be leaving, but I’m also so excited about where I’m going. I’ll be a Community Manager at Black Tabby Games and Community/Social Media Manager and Writer at Sunset Visitor! Slay the Princess and 1000xRESIST have influenced me so much as a creative; they’re two of my top ten games of all time. I’ve been playing Scarlet Hollow since I got the job offer and it’s the most impressive visual novel I’ve ever played, and I’ve been playing games of that genre since I was, like, 12 (I’m 28 now lol). In short: I’ll get to market three of my favorite games of all time and write on the next game from one of my favorite studios… it’s basically a dream come true!

Bahaha, I honestly have a hard time picking one. Every day since I’ve been here has either been a good day or a bad day immensely improved by my fellow Future Friends. But if I had to pick, it’d be the first time I met everyone in Brighton when we flew in for the Develop conference. Seeing all of you in person in my favorite city is a time I’ll never forget. As the only American Future Friend, I always wanted any opportunity I could get to be figuratively closer to you all. Everyone has treated me so wonderfully, so when the time came that I finally met you all in person, it felt so special. Thank you for taking care of me and making sure I felt like I belonged.

I love Yennefer of Vengerberg from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt so much that I named my cat after her. She is five years old, a beautiful black cat with eyes that are either green or yellow depending on the day. She’s extremely talkative and stingy with overt affection, and I love her very much. She didn’t interrupt my Future Friend calls anywhere as much as our doggo, an adorable Shih Tzu named Kento who snores like a train. They are everything in our little household, here is a picture of them:

What is the one piece of life advice you would give for everyone?

Do the thing you want to do even when nobody’s looking. 9 and a half years ago, I wanted to write about video games. I suddenly woke up one day and realized that I just needed to do it. And so I did—I started by writing reviews on my little personal WordPress blog. Throughout that time, I‘ve met most of my closest friends and accomplished four dreams. I’ve studied at a great university far from home, became a managing editor at a diverse games publication with people I loved, joined the best PR agency (imo) and had a healing journey here at Future Friends, and now onto becoming a games writer. It has all stemmed from that one decision to start doing what I wanted to do. I do think luck plays a part, but in my opinion, you get lucky by working hard to be in the right room with the right people at the right time. It starts with hard work, so just work at it and the rest will come in time.

NO 😭 lasagne is perfect as it is… adding anything to it only taints it!! The only thing to add to lasagne is extra cheese. There is never enough cheese.

I miss you all already too. ;_; I came here at the tail end of the roughest period of my life. My chronic pain had reached its worst, I and my friends had been laid off from Fanbyte (rest in pieces to the best games site ever), and I felt so directionless. I can’t overstate just how hopeless I felt.

Being here healed my body, my mind, my soul. Everyone’s kindness truly transformed me. I feel so much closer to the person I want to be because I was here, with all of you. I am a kinder, brighter, and smarter person because of my time here at Future Friends. Thank you for always being so good to me. I feel so lucky to be so sad to leave a job. This isn’t a goodbye, just a “see you around.” A Future Friend is a Forever Friend to me. ❤️

Vroom Vroom! WHAT THE CAR? races onto Apple Vision Pro!

It’s time to go beep beep, spatial computing style!

Award winning developer Triband (WHAT THE GOLF?) launched their award winning hit WHAT THE CAR? (DICE mobile game of the year) on Apple Vision Pro this month. If having the game within an all encompassing headset isn’t enough then you’re in luck, the Apple Vision Pro via Apple Arcade version also features a spatial computing steering wheel to control the game!!! Now you can vroom vroom with your hands!!!

Oh… and speaking of spatial things, you can also grab yourself a (what the) PLUSHIE to occupy your surroundings irl.

Collectors Cove’s dino-mite demo drop!

The Indie studio with a very fun name, VoodooDuck, officially revealed their game Collector’s Cove! A high seas farming adventure featuring uncharted waters and a very cute dinosaur creature! What more could you want?

The game will be released on PC via Steam in 2026 but don’t worry, you can get your flippers on the playable demo right now!

Instants is out now and has our stamp of approval!

Great news for my fellow journaling girlies, the narrative scrapbooking puzzle game, Instants, launched this month on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch!!

From indie studio Endflame, Instants is a captivating journey that blends puzzle-solving, heartfelt storytelling and crafting - without having to worry about real sticky glue! This game is a great example of the old adage “a picture is worth a thousand words”.

Surprise launch for this van-tastic game - Camper Van!

Malapata Studio’s cozy decorating game, Camper Van: Make it Home, is out now for PC via Steam! Wow!!

Decorate the van of your dreams in this relaxing game all about building a home on wheels. If you like decorating, organisation puzzles, and/or don’t have a driving license and wanna fill that hole then this is the cozy game for you! (psst… you can unlock a furry friend in the game too. They are very cute).

New game, Bernband, is out of this world!!!

Wandering around with your arms outstretched in front of you is very liberating and not weird at all, as evidenced by Tom van den Boogaart’s (Grunn & one quarter of the Sokpop Collective) next project: Bernband’s sequel, Bernband!

I know what you are thinking… a sequel with the same name? Yes. You can do that, you know. Live your life. Run around with your 8 fingers. Get lost. Wishlist Bernband. Uncover secrets. Slap things. See the sights of an alien city.

Sound like a good time? You can basically do all of that in Bernband, the surrealist sci-fi exploration sim with no map or goals. Just the open question: where will your feet take you?

Thomas van den Berg, aka noio games (aka Kingdom: New Lands, Cloud Gardens, Pizza Possum), has announced a new sick project - Garbage Country!

Out and About, the super cozy foraging adventure, is currently doing a big playtest on PC via Steam! Keen players can now try the game and give the devs feedback in the ramp-up to launch (that’s coming soon!). Learn to identify 100+ real-life plants and fungi while touching digital grass. The Mayor’s cracking down on New Yolk City (how fowl) but at last the black market is thriving! Our friends at Creature, the VR label run by big-name industry veterans held their first cool showcase with the coolest rhyming name. The biggest secret we’ve been keeping was finally revealed last Thursday night in the Triple-i showcase. CloverPit, the demonic lovechild of Balatro and Buckshot Roulette from indie studio Panik Arcade (of Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom fame), was officially announced, and now we no longer have to hide the reason why we are all distracted at work!

  • We announced recently that we are publishing Treeplanter, an upcoming peaceful woodland game. The lovely dev, Henry Driver, will plant a tree on his farm for every copy sold! Wow! Wishlist to help us combat climate change, or if you wanna be freaky you can also wishlist and exhaust a poor English lad’s little planting arms… I guess that’s fun too.

  • We also announced the stylish 1v1 card battler Castle V Castle, which is being developed by one-person indie studio nopopo, the creator of mobile sensation Devolver Tumble Time and funded by Casey Yano via Outersloth (you know, the guy who made Slay the Spire and the creators of Among Us 🤯). Talk about indie game royalty.

• 🐸 Team update: A lovely new friend has joined the team!!! Everyone say hi to Louisa!!!!

Louisa joined us in the week leading up to Mudborne’s launch last month, churning out as many Tiktok’s as if it was magic (it’s not, she’s a very hard worker and we like her a lot). The game is all about being a frog and breeding little frogs so she quickly gained the title of ‘Frog Pimp’ and well… we’ll let this video speak for itself.

Lonely Mountains new free update

On Wednesday, indie team Megagon released their first free content update (new mountain! Challenges!! leaderboards!!!) for their indie hit Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders. Since its launch on Game Pass, PC via Steam, and Xbox, it has topped 900k players! That’s a lot of people skiing down the slopes which renders the ‘lonely’ part of the title as an erroneous lie… really makes you think.

How are you? We hope you’ve been doing well! Fall is here for us in the Northern Hemisphere, which means crunchy red, brown, and orange leaves; cozy sweaters; and multiple people taking time off at the end of this month to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard. 👀 

For this first newsletter, we’re starting with a bang!! Our Ghibli-inspired action-adventure game Europa is OUT NOW! 

Made by a tiny (but very talented) dev team, what started in 2017 as a passion project is now a full-fledged stunning meditative journey, and we’re so excited the game is now ready for players to experience. 😁 We hope you’ll enjoy spending a few hours on the moon of Jupiter as much as we do!

What is Europa about?

On the moon Europa, a lush terraformed paradise in Jupiter’s shadow, an android named Zee sets out in search of answers. Run, glide and fly across the landscape, solve mysteries in the ruins of a fallen utopia, and discover the story of the last human alive. 

Europa is a peaceful game of adventure, exploration and meditation. As you travel you’ll gradually upgrade the capabilities of your Zephyr jetpack, boosting yourself further through the air until you can flow freely into the sky.

It’s been a busy start to October! In the last nearly two weeks, we’ve helped cool indies with things like:

• Announced Keep Driving with YCJY Games – a game about looking back and driving forward, with a unique turn-based battle system (those aren’t too common nowadays, huh)!

• Released Garden of the Sea on Steam with Neat Corporation – the perfect game to play if you’re a farming sim fiend!

• Launched Grunn – a very normal gardening game in which you do normal things and normal things happen! Very normal, just don’t go out at night!

• Announced the release date for Great God Grove with LimboLane and Fellow Traveller – a game in which you literally suck dialogue and use your powers to befriend gods… and save the world?

• Launched the 1.0 version of Thronefall with Grizzly Games – it’s a minimalist tower defence game that just feels so good to play because it ditches complicated systems. (The writer of this newsletter has a smooth brain and enjoys not knowing a thing about anything ever.)
